Outlaws lose a tough game on the road against the Salina Saints

by Amber White

The Oklahoma Outlaws took a trip up I-35 to Salina, Kansas to play a preseason game against the undefeated ABA Salina Saints. The Outlaws started out quick, shooting 39 percent from the 3 point line and overall field goal percentage of 49 percent in the first half. They went into the locker room up 67-62 at halftime. They came out the second half with the same mentality in the first five minutes of the third quarter, the outlaws went up on the Saints quick leading 87-62. Costly turnovers turned into them scoring quick three pointers and layups which led to 4 point baskets, which is a rule in the ABA, if the defensive team gets a steal in the backcourt the 3-D rule goes into effect. When the 3-D Rule is on, an additional point is added to the point value of the field goal. (i.e. two point (2pt) baskets count as three, three point (3pt) baskets count as four. The 3-D light then remains on until that team scores, gets fouled and attempts a free throw which an extra free throw will be added for the player. The Outlaws lost their groove, they kept the game close through the rest of the third quarter. The fourth quarter was much different, the team lost their energy and turnovers continued for the outlaws and the saints capitalized on them. The team never lost their fight and continued to play until the final buzzer sounded. The team finished with a field goal percentage of 57, 3-point percentage of 42. The outlaws had all 5 of their starters in double figures. Jonathan Reed finished with 33 points, 4 steals, and 7 assists. Devin Harris finished the game with 24 points, 6 assists, and 8 rebounds. Taries Taylor recorded 24 points, 3 assists, and 3 steals. Kennis White finished the game with a double-double scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds. Reimond Prince recorded 18 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Steven Cougill finished the game with  6 points and Jaymes Toles with 5. The team looks to work hard this week and comeback ready to play this coming up weekend against the Bartlesville Rim Rattlers.
